Inkle Weaving

Inkle weaving is the traditional and global method of creating narrow, long, strong, decorative woven bands, also known as warp-faced weaving. Inkle bands can be used for belts, bag straps, hair bands, dog leads, edging for clothing etc. These bands can be woven on an inkle loom, backstrap loom and/or using tablets/cards.

Inkle Weaving Workshops

Create woven inkle band samples on an inkle loom and a backstrap loom using a variety of decorative patterns, techniques, colours and yarn. Warp up an inkle loom and learn to read warping drafts and pattern charts to create a variety of patterns, including Baltic-style and other 'pick up' techniques, using cotton, linen and woollen threads. At the end of the workshop you will be able to take home your woven samples, which will be approx bookmark size.
This workshop intends to give you the skills and confidence needed to set up a loom and inkle weave independently.
All materials and equipment are provided. If you have an inkle loom, backstrap loom, or some yarn, that you would like to use you are welcome to bring them.
This workshop is suitable for beginners.
